1901年,日本巡回放映电影的老板高松丰次郎在台北西门町《台湾日新闻报》报社前的空地上,搭建一座木屋放映场,放映由日本带来的10多部新闻短片,最初只供日本人观赏,堪称是台湾有电影的开端。 1922年至1945年,台湾共摄制了10部故事片,其中有声电影占3部,鉴于台湾从1895年至1945年是被日本侵占期,故事片是日语对白,并被用来为日本军国主义作宣传。 抗日战争胜利后,“台湾省电影制片厂”于1945年11月在台北成立,翌年即开始制作新闻纪录片。 1947年上海的国秦影业公司到台湾
