２００１年８月１０日７时２０分；国道３１４线７６６ｋｍ＋６４１ｍ（新疆新和县境内）处，发生一起特大交通事故。新疆旅客运输公司司机买买提·艾买提驾驶一辆郑州宇通牌卧铺客车，附入新沙干渠，车上乘客４２人（含车主与司机），仅有７人生还。事故发生后，引起党和国家领导人及国家安全生产委员会、公安部交通管理局等有关部门的高度重视。国务院总理朱 基，副总理吴邦国在事故通报上签署了“千方百计打捞遇难者”的命令；国家安全生产委员会、公安部交通管理局派专人赶赴现场，指挥打捞工作，调查事故发生原因。
At 7:20 on August 10, 2001, a serious traffic accident occurred at 766 km + 641 m of National Highway 314 (within Xinhe County, Xinjiang). A driver of Xinjiang Passenger Transport Company, Maimaiti Amati, drove a Zhengzhou Yutong brand sleeper bus and attached Xinsha trunk canal, with 42 passengers (including the owner and driver) and only 7 survived. After the accident, caused by the party and state leaders and the State Production Safety Commission, Ministry of Public Security Traffic Authority and other relevant departments attach great importance. Premier Zhu Jichi and Vice Premier Wu Bangguo of the State Council signed the order of “Do everything possible to salvage the victims” in the accident notification. The State Production Safety Commission and the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security sent special personnel to the scene to direct the salvage work and investigate the causes of the accident.
