The effect of citrus on seed reduction by irradiation is significant. In 1960, R.A.Hensz from the United States used hot neutrons to treat Hudson grapefruit seeds and bred almost star-free Star Ruby grapefruit, which has been promoted in production. In 1980, C.J.Hearn reported that pineapple orange, Duncan, and Foster grapefruit were irradiated with 4000 lag ~ (60) Co-gamma rays and also obtained seedless fruits. From a Forster tree grown from irradiated seeds, repeated harvesting of the shoots and reproduction of some of the trees from the shoots after repeated irradiation gave rise to commercial seedless fruits, which were also earlier result.
