湖南省地震局是负责管理湖南省防震减灾工作的职能部门。现内设监测预报处、应急救援处、科技发展处、震害防御处等10个处室和监测中心、预报中心、工程研究中心等4个中心及7个地震台。 湖南省地处华南地震区内相对活跃的中强地震带——江汉地震带,具有发生中强地震的背景。自1500年以来,所有的市都发生过有感地震,9个市、州发生过破坏性地震。省会长沙1996年被国务院定为全国13个地震重点监视防御城市之一。由于近70年没有发生过破坏性地震,人们的防震减灾意识相对薄弱,所以,
Hunan Seismological Bureau is responsible for the management of Hunan Province earthquake disaster reduction functions. There are 10 monitoring and forecasting offices, emergency rescue department, science and technology development office, earthquake damage prevention and other offices and 10 monitoring centers, forecast centers, engineering research center 4 centers and 7 seismic stations.
