岑师时甫先生离开我们已六年多了,然而他的音容笑貌、道德文章在我脑海里愈来愈明晰,我对他的怀念也愈深切。 岑先生是我的语言学启蒙老师。1948年夏我在上海报考中山大学语言学系时,还以为这个系是培养话剧的创作与表演人才的,因为我在中学时代参加过《孔雀胆》、《万世师表》等话剧的表演,当时在这方面有点兴趣。是年秋,我接到录取通知后,便从上海经武汉、到广州石牌国立中山大学报到注册。第一堂专业课是文学院代理院长兼语言学系主任岑麒祥教授的《语言学引论》。听了他讲“绪论”,我才知道“语言学”不是原来想象的那样,而是一门研究语言的科学,和学习演话剧完全是两码事。
Mr. Shi Shifu has left us for more than six years, but his voice and smile, moral articles in my mind more and more clear, I miss him more deeply. Mr. Cen is my linguistic enlightenment teacher. When I applied to the Department of Linguistics at Sun Yat-sen University in Shanghai in the summer of 1948, I also thought that this department was to cultivate the creative and performing talents of drama because I had participated in performances such as “Kong Pei Geng” and “Wan Shi Shi Biao” in high school. At that time A little bit interested in this area. Autumn is the year, I received the admission notice, then from Shanghai via Wuhan, Guangzhou Shipai National Sun Yat-sen register registration. The first specialized course is “Introduction to Linguistics”, acting Dean of the School of Letters and Professor Cen Qi Xiang, Head of Linguistics Department. After listening to his introduction, I learned that “linguistics” is not what was originally imagined, but a science that studies language and learning drama are two different things.
