Educational theory and practice has always been a contradiction, which is more obvious in the field of distance education. In recent years, both domestic and international distance education practice have developed rapidly. Therefore, it is even more necessary to reflect on the practice constantly to discover and understand the theoretical principles behind the successful practice of open and distance education so as to promote and promote the corresponding theoretical practice. There is also a need for more equal dialogue and exchange between theoretical researchers and practitioners, thus bridging the gap between theory and practice in distance education. Dr. Paul Chuannei interviewed in this article has been devoted to the study of distance education theory and practice. In 2003, he proposed interaction distance model based on Moore’s interaction distance theory and Mitchell’s teaching conversation theory (Kawachi, 2003). Paul Chuani is a well-known expert and scholar in the field of international open and distance education.
