From January 1984 to May 1986, the authors observed the electroencephalograms of 56 patients with brain-dead patients clinically diagnosed. Results Of the 56 cases, 11 (19.6%) still had EEG activity after the diagnosis of brain death. The average observation time was 36.6 (2 ~ 168) h. There are three types of EEG activity: ① The θ or β activity of low voltage (4 ~ 20μV) can be seen within 72 hours after brain death, a total of 9 cases (16.1%). One of the patients underwent neuropathological examination, showing changes in ischemia and hypoxia of nerve cells, which were found in all layers of the cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, brainstem and cerebellum. Sleep-like brain waves (a synchronized 30- 40 μV θ and δ complex waves, as well as 60-80 μV,
