Objective To study the changes and clinical significance of nitric oxide (NO) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) synthesized and secrete by vascular endothelial cells in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Plasma levels of NO were measured in 76 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and without vascular complications and 51 normal controls by chemical colorimetry. Results The plasma level of NO in type 2 diabetes mellitus was significantly lower than that in the normal control group, while the level of NO in diabetic patients with vascular complications was lower than that in non-diabetic diabetic patients. There was no significant difference in the levels of NOS between the groups. Conclusions Our results suggest that NO plays an important role in the development and progression of vascular complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus, which may affect the hemodynamics of patients. The level of NO reflects the degree of diabetes and vascular injury to a certain extent. NOS has no obvious The difference may be caused by the lack of NO precursors leading to NO reduction, further study is needed.
