Joseph Conrad is a legendary writer, on him, “cross-border” is a major feature. This article explores Conrad from Poland to France and from the United Kingdom to the physical cross-border and identity crossover, and then discusses his ideological cross-border as a world-influential writer in the West, especially in the United States. The article holds that accepting this kind of cross-border in the United States is not only the need of the United States to self-cognize the need of the “other”, but also a necessity of updating its pedigree in the new world situation.
