According to the British report, sulfation roasting of native and regenerated copper-smelting slag has been conducted to facilitate the easy dissolution of copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc and iron. The process includes pre-baking of the slag, followed by calcination with pyrite and then leaching with water. The effects of roasting and leaching conditions on the recovery of valuable metals were explored. While the primary slag directly calcined to sulfide reaches a large amount of copper dissolved, calcination with added pyrite improves recovery. This technology also makes it possible to recover copper from secondary smelting slag. Under optimum conditions, more than 95% of the copper can be recovered, with pyrite: slag = 0.25, calcined at 550 ° C for 1h with pyrite and only reaching cobalt, nickel and zinc
