Experts said Wednesday that a quaking earthquake on Wednesday night (June 10, 1987) thundered across the 16 states from the east coast to the Mississippi. The earthquake shows that even moderately strong earthquakes can cause far greater damage than similar earthquakes in the western region. The epicenter was located in southern Illinois with magnitude 5 on the Richter scale. According to the West Coast standard, it is a minor earthquake but it has attracted as much attention as Canada.
