Cat3116系列柴油机应用广泛，如用在E200B、E240B和325挖掘机，950F、960F装载机及其他一些产品上。这种柴油机的燃油系采用了柱塞副与喷油器做成一体，即俗称“单体泵”的结构型式，其燃油系的供油油路在缸盖上，组合喷油器由套管使之与冷却剂通道隔离，此套管也为喷油器提供界面；而一般的传统结构是柱塞副和喷油器分开放置，中间用管路连接起来。这种“单体泵”结构减少了供油系统中的压力损失和管路泄漏，但这种供油系统的结构特点会产生一些特殊性故障和一些特殊的修理工艺要求。
