二十五史是我国史书中最基本最重要的一种。就体裁而言,这种史书中,既有纪传,又有表谱书志。然而,二十五史中,表志齐备者,惟《史记》(称书不称志)、《汉书》、《新唐书》、《宋史》、《辽史》、《会史》、《元史》、《新元史》、《明史》九种;有志无表者,则有《后汉书》、《晋书》、《宋书》、《南齐书》、《魏书》、《隋书》、《旧五代史》、《新五代史》(称考不称志)九种;其余《三国志》、《梁书》、《陈书》、《北齐书》、《周书》、《南史》、《北史》等七种则表志俱无。此无表无志之七种与无表有志之九种,不能称为完备,即以表志俱全者观
