中华民族号称有5000年的文明史,但是上至口耳相传的三皇五帝,下至文献记载的夏商周上古社会,其真实性一直都受到史学家们的质疑。中华文明的历史究竟有多长?夏商周三代王朝的纪年到底能否被确定?近百年来无数学者为此殚精竭虑,孜孜以求。1983年,一次例行的考古勘探让偃师商城重见天日。作为商汤灭夏后建立的第一座都城,偃师商城不仅标定了夏商两代更迭的分界点,在“夏商周断代工程”中占有举足轻重的地位,而且也是迄今为止夏商周三代都城里保存最好的一座,其中的宫城更是一举奠定了此后数千年中国古代宫殿建筑的格局。
