与近代传奇杂剧和地方戏的研究比较起来,近代话剧的研究有两个明显的优势:其一是资料较为丰富,其二是出现了一些类似专史性质的论著。自然,近代话剧研究也有一些明显的不足:对某些问题的看法长期各执一说,至今未形成较统一的意见;对近代话剧的起源、兴盛和衰落的研究几乎取代了对剧本、剧人和团体的研究;一般性地陈述史料多而深入的学术评论少。但是,当我们把近代话剧的研究放在整个近代戏剧研究的背景上进行考察时,应该说,近代话剧的研究成绩大体上还可以说是差强人意!
Compared with the study of modern drama and local drama in modern times, the study of modern drama has two obvious advantages: one is more abundant information, and the other is the emergence of a number of similar characteristics of history. Naturally, there are also some obvious shortcomings in the study of modern drama: the long-term viewpoints on certain issues have not formed a unified opinion so far; and the study of the origins, flourishings and declines of modern drama has almost replaced the emphasis on script, And group studies; generally, there is little or no in-depth academic commentary on historical materials. However, when we study the study of modern drama on the background of the whole study of modern drama, we should say that the performance of modern drama in general can be described as unsatisfactory!
