Recent studies show that overly simple toxicity estimates like LC 50 (50) do not provide enough information to assess the actual impact of pesticide exposure on a population over a longer period of time. This article explores the application of demographic and population models in evaluating the impact of pesticides on pests and their natural enemies. The new methods are discussed to provide insight into the potential impact of pesticides on pest and beneficial insects as biocontrol agents.
