薏苡(Coix lacryma-Jobivar.frumentacea Makino)为禾本科薏苡属植物,在高温地带呈宿根性。又名薏仁、苡米、薏仁米、珍珠米、药玉米等。它和玉米的血缘最近,营养器官的外形也和玉米相似,株高1米多,雌雄同株异花,但分枝性极强,为总状花序。原产我国,早在春秋战国时代,就普遍种植,以后逐渐衰落。近代栽培薏苡,主要供作药用,它的子实具有强筋骨、消水肿、利肠胃的作用。最近发现子实中含有薏苡酯(Coi-xenolide C_(38)H_(70)O_4)可以抗癌。从根中提炼出的薏苡醇Coixol C_8H_7O_3N),除有薏苡酯的药理作用外,
