企业范围内的存储意味着通过广域网把用户连接到存储设备上。历史上,这是使用较为昂贵的专用线路实现的。存储网络技术的新发展正在通过标准的 IP 网实现透明的存储连接。在 IP 网上存储,应该利用一个组织已有的或计划中的 IP 主干网,在不影响局域网流量的同时移动存储数据。而且,通过 IP 传送的数据应在服务器和存储设备之间,或者在采用 SCSI和光纤通道那样的驱动器接口协议的存储设备之间提供连接和转换功能。
Enterprise-wide storage means connecting users to storage devices over a wide area network. Historically, this was done using more expensive dedicated lines. New developments in storage networking technology are making transparent storage connections over standard IP networks. Storing on an IP network should utilize an organization’s existing or planned IP backbone to move stored data without affecting LAN traffic. Moreover, the data transferred over IP should provide connectivity and translation capabilities between servers and storage devices, or between storage devices that employ a drive interface protocol such as SCSI and Fiber Channel.
