中国科学社主编的《申报》周刊“科学与人生”栏目,宗旨为使普通民众具备基本科学常识,煅就优秀民众个体,以提升中华民族素质,争取抗战的最后胜利。以通论、一般科学常识介绍、新技术发明等类文字,形成了层次较为分明的科学传播构架。周刊1939年2月创刊,7月停刊,出刊24期。维持时间虽短,但在强敌环伺下,其关于普及科学的欲求、关于中国科学发展缓慢的原因探讨、对民众自修科学的鼓动与宣扬,至今仍有意义;主持者秉志等面临强敌无所畏惧的姿态,更值得后辈缅怀。
