The creation of South African writer Andrey Brink lasts three times in the period of time, roughly 1959, 1968 and 1991, and has gone through four stages: the stage of exploration of the traditional Afrikaans literature; The rebellious phase of traditional Afrikaans literature; the critical phase of the reality of apartheid in South Africa; and the imaginative reconstruction of South African history. The key factors contributing to these three transformations are the writer’s early Paris experience, the evolution of the political situation in South Africa, and the absorption and utilization of post-modern literary trends. After three transformations, Brinckerk eventually became an internationally acclaimed master by a well-known writer who lived only within the Afrikaans in South Africa.
