大冶铁矿是我国典型的矽卡岩矿床,位于淮阳山字形构造弧顶西侧与新华夏构造体系第二隆起带次级构造的复合部位,是印支期以来中酸性岩浆多次侵入与碳酸质岩石作用的结果,矿体主要产于中酸性侵入体与碳酸盐岩接触带上。
