专业设置关系着学校以及整个职业教育的发展,通过对教育部公布的《2014年高等职业学校专业设置备案结果》进行分析,发现目前的专业设置存在着现行专业目录结构不合理、专业大类和专业难以适应经济社会的发展、一些专业名称不规范且内涵不清晰、有些专业口径过窄和重复交叉、与中职和本科衔接不紧密等问题。解决这些问题,高职院校需要加强调研、要建立专门的专业设置机构、加强对新专业的开发与建设;教育主管部门需要根据国家和地方产业政策、经济社会现状及发展趋势负责组织制定高职院校的专业目录、方针政策,并进行宏观的指导及监督;利用政策杠杆保证冷热专业协调发展。
