The 44th International Planning Conference opened on September 20 in Dalian, the first time that the International Association of Urban and Regional Planners chose to hold an annual meeting in China. The three-day conference focused on non-invasive urban growth. The conference discussed topics such as urban spread economics, public transportation, ideas and policies to curb urban sprawl, metropolitan management, ecological management and cultural heritage, urban form between urban sprawl and compact cities.
