The University of Waterloo has successfully researched a new method for the reduction of magnesium by silicothermic process and obtained the patent right in the United States. At present, 80% of the world’s magnesium is produced by magnesium chloride electrolysis and the remaining 20% is obtained by the direct reduction of silicon thermal method. All the methods used have different limitations. Silicon thermal reduction produces the following reaction: 2Cao solid + 2MgO solid + Si solid - 2Mg gas + Ca_2SiO_4 solid reaction is an endothermic reaction, the reaction rate is greatly increased above 1100 ℃. In fact, the current reaction temperature, the vapor pressure of magnesium is lower than atmospheric pressure. Ensure the reactor lining reliability, preheat charge and at low pressure
