Yanmengguan Pass is situated at the key junction south of Shanyin county, 20 kilometers north of Dai county(of Shanxi province). The east of Yanmenguan Pass neighbors with Jing Mountains and Yanmengguan Pass, and the west near to Jing Hills. The two mountains stand facing each other. During the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, Emperor Zhao Wuling set up Yangmengguan county here. In the Tang Dynasty, the pass was established, named as West Jing Pass, also Yanmengguan Pass. The original site lies on Yanmeng Mountain west to Yanmengguan Pass. During the seventh year of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty, the pass was rebuilt to serve as one of the important fortress of the Great Wall .
