合口石膏矿床赋存于早第三纪古新世晚期沙市组上段,为一内陆湖盆边坡浅滩相沉积经后期部分改造的特大型石膏矿床。矿体呈层状、似层状产出,有四个矿组、六个可采矿层,平均厚度50m,平均品位74%,矿石类型为石膏及硬石膏,石膏主要分布在浅部水化带。矿床形成的地质条件为红色断陷盆地内的湖盆边坡浅滩相,由蒸发沉积经次生变化而成。风的吹拂作用对硬石膏快速堆积厚大矿体起了一定作用。
Hankou gypsum deposit occurred in the upper reaches of the Early Paleocene Shashi Formation of the Early Tertiary, and is an extra-large gypsum deposit partly altered by the later period of the inland lake basin slope shoal facies sedimentation. The ore body is stratified and appears to be layered. There are four ore groups and six recoverable layers with an average thickness of 50m and an average grade of 74%. The ore types are gypsum and anhydrite, and gypsum is mainly distributed in the shallow hydration zone . The geological conditions of the deposit are the shoal facies of the lake basin slope in the red faulted basin, which is formed by the secondary alteration of evaporative deposition. The blowing effect of the wind played a role in the rapid accumulation of thick gypsum ore body.
