岁末年关对香港来说理应是一年当中最热闹的时节,然而金融风暴袭击香江已有年余,并且香港1998年8月~10月失业统计为5.3%,创17年来新高,报纸上充斥着裁员减薪消息,这些都给年关蒙上层层阴影。1998年10月22日,有45年历史的通利琴行宣布因经济不景气取消600名员工的年终双粮。同日传媒报道和记电讯要求400名员工“减假期、加工时、扣超时薪金”,完全是变相减薪。
The year-end and New Year holidays should be the hottest time of the year for Hong Kong. However, the financial turmoil has hit Hong Kong for more than a year and the jobless rate of unemployment in Hong Kong from August to October 1998 was 5.3%, a record high for 17 years. The newspaper is flooded with newspapers Layoffs and pay cuts, these are to the top of the year off the shadow. On October 22, 1998, the 45-year-old Tom Lee Kwan-Chan announced the annulment of the year-end double pay of 600 employees due to the economic downturn. On the very same day, Hutchison Telecommunications requested Hutchison 400 employees to “deduct the holidays, pay overtime salaries when processing the goods”, totally disguised as pay cuts.
