Artemisia is a wild vegetable popular with the public because of its unique odor, especially in Nanjing. The gossamer area in Nanjing receives hundreds of millions of output value each year due to Artemisia selengensis. Since 2012, Artemisia ordosica in the area appeared one new disease in succession from August to September. In the early stages of the disease, the stems of cuttings in the lower part of the soil were brownish with a stinking odor. When the disease was serious, the plants withered until the whole plant died. In Gossip Island, the incidence of the disease is about 10% to 20% each year, and some fields are in abeyance. In this study, the diseased plants were collected for tissue separation and verified by Koch’s Law, more than 30 isolates with pathogenicity were obtained. Twelve strains of bacteria were randomly selected and identified as Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp carotovorum by physiological and biochemical reactions, Biolog assay and multi-site sequence analysis. This study is the first report of bacterial soft rot disease of Artemisia selengensis.
