韩国位于太平洋西岸,亚洲东北部向南延伸约100公里的朝鲜半岛南半部分。正西面与中国大陆隔海相望,东面是日本列岛。国土面积为99237平方公里,约占朝鲜半岛总面积的45%。1991年,韩国人口为4323万,人口密度为每平方公里436人。人口主要集中在若干大城市里,汉城市人口约占全国人口的四分之一。在行政区划上,韩国包括一个特别市(汉城),五个直辖市(釜山、大邱、仁川、光州、大田),九个道(京畿道、江原道、忠清南道、忠清北道、全罗南道、全罗北道、庆尚南道、庆尚北道、济州道)。首都汉城特别市是韩国的政治、经济和文化中心。
South Korea is located in the western part of the Pacific Ocean, about half a kilometer south of the Korean Peninsula, extending south-east of northeast Asia. Just west of China and the sea across the sea, the east is the Japanese archipelago. Land area of 99,237 square kilometers, accounting for about 45% of the total area of the Korean peninsula. In 1991, the population of South Korea was 43.23 million with a population density of 436 people per square kilometer. The population is mainly concentrated in several major cities, with Seoul accounting for about a quarter of the national population. In the administrative division, South Korea includes one special city (Seoul), five municipalities (Busan, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju and Daejeon), nine courses (Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Jeollanam- North Corridor, South Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Jeju-do). The Seoul Metropolitan Special City is Korea’s political, economic and cultural center.
