The research of the Central Red Blood Center of the Japanese Red Cross has succeeded in a new method for massively extracting extremely pure interferon from human blood. Interferon is used to treat hard-to-treat hepatitis and chronic viral diseases. The center at the Tokyo Red Cross Hospital in Japan announced on December 21 that it had succeeded in studying this new method in collaboration with the Red Cross Blood Bank medical experts in Osaka, Kyoto and Hokkaido in October. The blood bank’s senior staff said about 100 million cubic meters of interferon can be extracted from white blood cells in 100,000 cubic centimeters of human blood.
