新中国的电影艺术,从它诞生的一天起,就具有自己的鲜明的特色。这个特色就是沿着现实主义道路向前发展,以反映当代现实生活为主流,同时又重视题材、风格、样式的多样化。回顾三十五年来我国的电影事业时,首先想起一九四九年观看新中国第一部故事片《桥》的情景。当时,解放战争还在南方进行着,在解放较早的东北,人民在自己创立的电影制片厂(现在的长春电影制片厂)里摄制了这部片子,并在刚成为首都的北京首次上映。这部影片描写的是钢铁工人为了支援解放战争而抢修大桥的故事。当我看到钢铁工人有史以来第一次成为银幕上的主人公时,不禁热泪盈眶,心情久久不能平静。《桥》实际上不仅仅是新中国的第一部故事片,而且为以后电影艺术的创作开拓了一条宽广的、生气勃勃的、富有中国特色的道路。当时,一切尚在初创时期,一年只能摄制十部影片;今天,中国电影的摄制规模和水平都已远非昔日所能比拟,仅一九八三年一年就摄制了一百二十多部故事片。然而,《桥》的现实
