International Symposium on Information Technology and Information Services was held in Shanghai from October 20 to 24, 1994. More than 150 experts and scholars from 22 countries and regions including the United States, Britain, Germany, Russia, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan attended the symposium. At the opening ceremony, Professor Shi Jian, director of the organizing committee and director of the Documentation and Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered an opening speech.
