前言李四光教授曾提出,发育在东亚大陆濒太平洋地区的新华夏系的第一隆起褶带以西,是由鄂霍茨克海、日本海、东海、南海等所组成的第一沉降褶带。珠江口盆地位于南海北部,发育在陆架、陆坡地区。其范围是,北纬17°—23°;东经111°—117°。夹持在南岭纬向构造带和海南纬向构造带之间,其西北邻第二隆起褶带,东接岛弧组成的第一隆起褶带和南海东缘经向带(台—吕经向带),是一个呈北东东向延伸的沉积盆地,面积约15万平方公里(图1)。
