《For Whom The Bell Tolls》可谓是METALLICA的上乘之作。有人统计过,几乎每次大型现场演出METALLICA都将此曲搬上了舞台。无论从歌曲的感染力还是深层寓意,都被众多乐迷津津乐道,此次METALLICA中国之行,此曲也是必不可少的作品之一。《For Whom The Bell Tolls》是METALLICA乐队1984年专辑《Ride the Lightening》中的一首歌曲。歌曲灵感来自于海明威同名小说作品《丧钟为谁而鸣》。该著作描写的是对现代战争的讽刺和在血腥的西班牙内战中主人公的厄运。具体的故事是说其中五个士兵在上山岗后,被湮没在空袭的现场。而METALLICA的这首作品,无论从歌词还是配乐上,都几乎完美地诠释了这样一个极具残酷现实意义的战争故事。
