1995年11月2日早晨7点多钟,主管经济工作的北京市副市长李润五提前走进办公室,感到心力交瘁,一边吸氧一边开始批阅文件。李润五患有高血压症,一些日子以来越来越频繁地出现胸闷、气短等症状,让他住院治疗,他总说工作忙。就这样,他一直与氧气瓶为伴。8时45分,他来到市政府北楼,与市长等研究工作,突然他头歪向一边,两手握拳,牙关紧咬,失去了知觉。经6个多小时全力抢救,下午3时15分,医生不得不含泪宣布:李润五副市长因大面积心肌梗塞而谢世,年仅56岁。
