After the twentieth century, the drawbacks of highly developed industrialization and urbanization have become increasingly exposed. Progressive civilization has been questioned, and the wilderness has become an antidote to civilization. From the definition of the wilderness, the definition of the wilderness area and the appearance of the contradiction, the passage of the Wilderness Act in 1964 made the wilderness protection idea widely disseminated and accepted. The study of the protection of American wilderness in the 20th century not only helps to change people’s original understanding of the wilderness, deepens people’s understanding of the intrinsic value of nature, but also has practical significance for promoting the cause of environmental protection in our country.
