When talking about the strategic concept of the development of China’s iron and steel industry, relevant personnel from the Ministry of Metallurgy said that according to the speed of economic growth proposed by the “14th National Congress of the CPC”, the rate of economic growth should be increased from 8% to 9% per year. By the year 2000, China’s steel output will have to reach between 1 and 1.2 Billion t. To achieve such output, it is now assumed that Shougang and Baosteel will build a 10-million-tonnage plant in the north and south to transform the production capacity of 10-million-ton Shougang Group, Baoshan Iron and Steel Group, Anshan Iron and Steel Group, Tang Steel, Ben
