This article outlines the differences and causes of formation of coal-to-gas and oil-type gas. According to the change of the proportions of elements in the evolution of the original organic matter, the issue of calculating the amount of gas generated by the material balance method is mainly discussed. Calculations show that the amount of gas generation is closely related to the type of organic matter and its evolution stage. The relevant issues were also discussed.
