五丁包子是扬州极负盛名的特色点心。它是以海参、母鸡、猪腿肉、冬笋、大虾为馅料做成的包子,入笼屉之后以猛火蒸熟而成,不但味道十分鲜美,营养也很全面。而据说清朝的乾隆皇帝便是五丁包子的第一位食客。当年,乾隆六下江南,一次途经扬州,扬州府的大小官员都既高兴,又害怕。高兴的是皇帝来了,如果服侍得好,自己就有可能加官进爵;害怕的是,一旦有个闪失,不但可能丢官,脑袋都有可能不保。所以扬州知府请来了扬州所有的高师名厨,决心一定要让乾隆吃得心满意足。
