海南岛、粤东、闽西南是广东、福建两省层控富铁矿的主要分布区,储量达数十亿吨,富矿占70%以上.目前,这些铁矿分别称为“石碌式”、“大顶式”、“马坑式”等. 大地构造单元海南岛、粤东、闽西南所处大地构造位置的性质十分相似.吴川-四会大断裂、东江大断裂(呈北东30~40°)、邵武-河源大断裂、政和-海丰大断裂(呈北东40~50°)斜贯闽粤两省,并向南西方向延伸进入海南岛.两组大断裂至海南岛有收拢之势.吴川一四会大断裂西北部为粤桂隆起区(Ⅰ),政和一海丰大断裂东南部为闽粤中生代断陷带(Ⅲ),这两组大断裂之间便构成华夏构造系上古生代断陷带(Ⅱ)(图1),即海南-粤东-闽西南断裂拗陷带,其中的层状富铁矿属于同一铁矿成矿带.
