雅典奥运女篮比赛于8月14日开战,28日决出最后的冠军。美国女篮以8战全胜的战绩获得金牌,澳大利亚队仅在最后的决赛中负于美国队,以7胜1负的战绩获得银牌。欧洲劲旅俄罗斯队在铜牌战中击败了南美强敌巴西队,为欧洲球队争得了颜面。至于曾在2002年世锦赛上大出风头的亚洲球队,则是大败亏输,全部被挤出八强之外,和代表非洲出战的尼日利亚队一起占据了最后的四个席位。世界女篮由此形成了亚非垫底、欧美大洋洲三足鼎立、美国独领风骚的新格局。
Athens Olympic Games women’s basketball competition started on August 14, the final winner on the 28th. The U.S. women’s basketball team won the gold medal in a record eight-game winning streak. Australia lost to the U.S. team only in the final and won the silver medal with a record of 7-1.
