新闻评论这块园地,给人的印象总是沉闷大于活跃,枯燥多于生动。虽然自党的十一届三中全会以来新闻评论工作者做了大量努力,也取得了一些可喜的效果,但是至今未能尽如人意。特别是社论、评论员文章等重要的评论式样,可读性还比较差,应有的权威并未实现,没有很好地起到期望之中的对于舆论的集中反映和重要引导作用。这样,当我们读到6月初以来中国青年报上陆续发表的署有评论员个人姓名的评论员文章时,就象感到一缕清新和畅的风拂面而来,眉目因之一爽,精神为之一振。7月初,新华社也播发了老资格评论员彭迪署名撰写的新华社
