Alzheimer’s is a brain-pathological lesion known for nearly a century, most commonly in the elderly, and is characterized as dementia, a serious disorder of memory and other high-level mental activity. The cause of the disease and treatment is not clear. Alzheimer’s disease has become a hot topic in two ways. First, the share of the disease in the Western world is on the rise. Three-quarters of those are in the United Kingdom and the United States and are now 60 years old. By the end of this century, as the birth rate declines, the proportion of the elderly in the population will rise to 20%, of which at least 1/20 will have Alzheimer’s disease. The second factor is the emergence of genetic and molecular biology techniques.
