五指山,全国闻名。但全国有几座五指山,这里指的不是海南省的五指山,而是广东省东北和平县境内属于九连山脉的五指山。九连山东北段,莽莽苍苍,横贯江西与广东省的交界处。远眺九连山,有一排并肩耸立的五个山头,象五个指头,故称五指山。正在快速修建的京九铁路,入粤的第一关就要穿越五指山腹地。在此,目前正在建设一座全长4455米的五指山隧道。它是京九线上最长的隧道,也是控制工期的重点工程,总工期为26个月。 五指山隧道是按双线电气化隧道设计和修建的,近期铺单线,全隧道均在直线段上,除进口10米一段为1.2‰的上坡外,其余地段均为4.5‰的下坡。 隧道围岩石质较好,也较完整。有几条断层,破碎
