牟宗三认为由内圣开出新外王,即从儒学为主体的中国传统文化中开出民主和科学,是儒学第三期发展的核心任务。这里有四层意思:1.内圣开出新外王,就是从文化理念的层面,接通儒学与民主科学从而刷新中国传统文化;2.内圣开出科学,即是要给科学以独立性;3.在民主和科学二者的关系上,民主更为重要;4.科学要摆脱传统政治和道德的束缚,又需要接受价值理想的指引。
Mou Zongsan believed that opening up a new outer king from the Nei-san, that is, opening up democracy and science to the traditional Chinese culture with Confucianism as the main body, is the core task of the third phase of the development of Confucianism. Here are four meanings: 1. Nei Sheng opened a new king, that is, from the cultural point of view, connect the Confucianism and democracy to refresh the traditional Chinese culture; 2. Nei Sheng out of science, that is, to give science independent 3. Democracy is more important in the relationship between democracy and science; 4. Science needs to be guided by the ideal of value in order to get rid of the shackles of traditional politics and ethics.
