Uzbekistan continued to use the remaining gold reserves in the country after the Soviet Union disintegrated to attract foreign investors. For example, Oxus Resources Corporation in the United Kingdom hopes to invest $50 million in the development of the АманТайтау gold mine (Kyklerkum). This is only the first phase of the development plan. At this stage, 1.9 tons of gold will be extracted from the oxidized ore by open-pit mining and installation of the equipment will be completed within one year. The second phase of the program requires an investment of US$118 million, which can be extracted from sulfate ore each year by underground mining.
