Everyone should have a good smile. However, beside us, there is a group of people who have been deprived of their right to smile by their birth. They are children with cleft lip and palate (commonly known as “rabbit lip”). According to the authoritative data of the Chinese government on the birth population, life expectancy, and incidence rate, there are currently at least 2.4 million patients with cleft lip and palate in China, including 415,000 children under 14 years of age. About 29,300 new patients are added each year. The physiological malformations of these children with cleft lip and palate make them unable to eat and speak like normal people and lose their ability to communicate with the outside world. These have brought tremendous mental torture to the children themselves and their families. They are far beyond what everyone can normally experience.
