According to the research results of Forst & Sullivan Co., Ltd., the production of oleochemicals in Europe will continue to grow, and its annual consumption of oleochemicals is expected to increase from US$2.79 billion in 1993 to US$3.09 billion in 1999. The research report pointed out that the European Community produced 2.2 million tons of oil chemical derivatives with 1.25 million tons of oleochemicals in 1993. The company specifically stated that it uses 200,000 tons of fatty acids and fatty acid methyl esters as raw materials to produce 200,000 tons of fatty acids, which in turn derivates and prepares surfactant end products such as fatty alcohol ethoxylates, fatty alcohol ether sulfates and fatty alcohols. Sulfates, these surfactants totaled 313,000 tons in 1993 in Europe. Similarly, 163,000 tons of fatty acid and fatty acid methylamine were converted to produce 16.3 million tons of designated amino amine, and then, 675,000 tons of final product was derived from fatty amine.
