Beryllium is the first metal that has been found to have carcinogenic effects. Many scholars have conducted beryllium carcinogenesis studies since 1946. Thirteen beryllium compounds have been used in animal experiments and have been shown to have carcinogenic effects. At the same time, the mutagenesis of beryllium was also studied. It was found that beryllium could increase the error of DNA polymerisation, and the mutation of HGPRT gene in Chinese vole mouse cells was more resistant to 8AG cells. Kanematsu et al. Used the Bacillus subtilis recombinant defect assay to detect the presence of beryllium as weakly positive, while the back-mutation test was negative. However, some people tested positive with beryllium and the conversion of the virus was elevated with Ames test. But beryllium chromosomal mutagenesis report is very small.
