1991年12月22日晚,第11届亚俱杯足球决赛在卡塔尔国家奥林匹克体育场结束后,亚足联秘书长维拉潘在颁奖仪式上破例将一枚金牌亲自挂在了中国裁判王学智胸前,以奖励中国足球裁判首次在国外成功地担任了洲际重大比赛冠亚军决赛的主裁判工作。王学智公正、准确地执法也受到了各参赛队的好评。截止到目前,王学智已在47场国际比赛、390场国内重大比赛中执法,但在国内足球裁判中还算不上资历最深者。他之所以能荣获中国“金哨”奖,恐怕最主要的原因是他能勤于思考、虚心做人吧。
